Harry Potter … Really?

Christians debate back and forth over secondary issues of what IS and IS NOT right or wrong. Does a church have to have a Sunday night service or is contemporary Christian music okay for church or _________________ (fill in the blank). But I have always been perplexed when Christians debate issues which are non debatable based on the clarity of the Word of God. Example:  “Do I need to tithe?” Yes. “Why?” Malachi 3 outlines it and Christ reinforced it when stating that even Pharisee’s knew enough to tithe.  His implication was clear… tithing was a starting point but growing Christians should give more.

Ignoring where the Bible is clear is sin. Period. The Bible says not to commit adultery or steal or murder. When someone does one of those things they have sinned. No one argues that or questions it. But the Bible is clear about many things which Christians try to explain away or declare Christian liberty. Why? It interferes with THEIR likes and wants.

The Bible is VERY clear about witches, witchcraft, sorcery, magic, and the occult. It is sin. But to some Christians it’s okay if it is a popular series of books and movies. Afterall, Harry is a “good” occultist practicing demonic witchcraft and sorcery. Right? WRONG.

False Potter Premisses:

1) There Is Good Magic and Bad Magic. WRONG. Magic (not illusions done by slight of hand or mechanical devices) is the supernatural ability to make or create or change people, circumstances, or things. The Bible calls it divination. It’s not about turning to God for help and asking Him to step in. It is about discovering the power “within” and channeling it as you direct. NO. It’s really about plugging into the demonic realm for unholy power. Galatians 5 outlines the things the Lord hates. Along with idolatry and adultery He lists witchcraft. Why? It is evil.

2) You Can Control the Power for Good or Evil. WRONG. You do not control Satan but he can control you. That is why we are admonished and warned not to give place to the devil … especially in our minds. He lies, manipulates, or produces generational curses into people’s lives.

The mind is the pathway that leads to the heart. “As a man thinks … so is he” You may think Harry Potter is harmless fun. Look at the obsession it is. How many young people have been tempted by the allure to magic and pagan witchcraft because of this series? Okay, maybe you haven’t been tempted to reject your faith and turn your back on Christ BUT by embracing something God hates, warns against, and takes very seriously you have chosen to amuse yourself with that which opposes God. What do you think that has done to your relationship with Him? Before you say, “it’s fine.” Is it really? Look what you’re embracing in the name of Christian liberty:

Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Leviticus 19:31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Leviticus 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
Micah 5:12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
Christian liberty or defense of carnality? In either case … the Word of God (our final source) has declared it wrong and sinful. So the next time you stand in line at Midnight to watch something that not only violates God’s clear directive but promotes it in a positive fashion … understand that you are rebelling against His Word. And what is rebellion according to the Word:
1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
