When Is Change A Good Thing

For an entire national election campaign we were bombarded with the slogan “Hope and Change.” People wanted change. They certainly got change. The key question now is … is this the change they wanted? Is this good change?

Scripture seems to contradict itself on the subject (don’t panic … I’ll bring it back around). There are verses which refer to Christ as the same yesterday, today, and forever … the God who changes not. What about remove not the ancient landmark? Yet, there are verses which state we are new creations, His mercies are new every morning, behold I do a new thing and so on.

So which is it?

It’s both!

I know, I know … sounds like a cop out answer. But it’s true. There are things about God which do change. There are things He does not want us to change. BUT then there are things He does want us to change.

So how do we know when it’s a God change or a me change? In other words, how do we know when God wants us to change something or it is simply something we want to change?

Isaiah 43:18 “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.” What does God do with our sins when He has forgiven them? He casts them into the seas of His forgetfulness. We are to let go of the old man. We are to learn our lessons from our past sins and failures … to glean a Godly perspective and understanding of those events and then move forward.

I am currently working in an  organization that has had some issues.  As the executive in charge my task is to get us on track. Phrases like, “that’s not how do/did this” are not acceptable answers. Why? Because what was done didn’t work.

When things in your life are not working … change is needed! Could be a change of thinking … change of direction … change of attitude … you get the idea. BUT something needs to change.

So how do you know when it is God orchestrating the change and not just you?

Isaiah 43:19 “Behold, I do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” When it is a God orchestrated change … something significant is going to happen that can only be explained as BUT GOD. Only God make rivers of what in a desert. Only God bring provision into your life when it has been ravaged and ruined by sin. Only God can turn seemingly hopeless situations around.

And you will KNOW it is God when something supernatural manifests that cannot be explained except as BUT GOD!

When is change a good thing? When it is a God thing!
